IdeaCity2008 Calorie Restriction

IdeaCity08

A very youthful looking Michael Rae who is now 38 years old I believe, is one of the longest and most serious CRers, starting in his latter 20's to try and slow down his own aging. He is also co author of 'Ending Aging' with Dr Aubrey De Grey. He briefly shares some data and thoughts on Calorie Restriction at Idea City in 2008. Shame he wasn't given more time, but the message was clear :-) Eat less calories, live longer, have more chance of reaching escape velocity to live even longer through advances in science to reverse aging.

Matthew, Michael talks briefly about joy that is experienced through CR. He didn't have a chance to elaborate on that, I wonder if you might.

They actually gave me 20 minutes (and I still very badly rushed through the last 5): these were excerpts.

Michael C: it's almost universally experienced that one feels quite magnificent on CR in various ways: especially during the first few months of CR, you often feel mildly exilhirated or giddy, along with (and often followed by) a deep and more abiding emotional calm (the "CR Zen") as the biochemistry of endocrinologically-driven mood swings and obsessions is broken. There is also a deep, almost mystical sense of the life force singing in your body as your metabolism is cleaned up and your body stops poisoning itself.

Despite this, some people do also become more readily irritable, short-tempered, or feel emotionally 'flat.'Aside from cases of folks just not doing it right (cutting too many Calories early, losing weight too quickly, not using software and scales & measures to ensure proper nutrition), some but not all cases some of the irritability can be reduced with modified eating routines/timing, tweaks in teh diet to avoid hunger: lower-GI carbs, bulkier veggies, often more protein and/or fat early on, etc.
